BIJNI: As a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations across the country, the SSB had undertaken an awareness campaign in the Chirang district of the state. This event included an awareness camp regarding narcotics and a volleyball tournament.

The two-day event was organised on the premises of the Number 1 Dongsiyapara M E Madrasa. The Fighter Company of the 15th Batallion of the SSB undertook this initiative to spread awareness regarding narcotic substances and their ill effects. An awareness rally was also taken out as a part of this campaign.

DIG Amit Kumar Thakur attended the closing event organised at the Headquarters of the SSB unit located in Bongaigaon. Commandant Neeraj Chand, Additional Commandant Arbind Choudhary and Inspector of the Fighter Company, Umesh Kumar were present at the headquarters of the 15th Battalion of the SSB located in Kajalgaon.

A sapling plantation program was also organised on the school premises as part of the event. A total of 26 teams participated in the volleyball tournament. In the men's final, the Number one Dongkhiyapara team defeated the SSB team with a 2-0 score. Meanwhile the women’s final, the Bijni team beat the SSB with a 1-0 score. At the end of the games, the dignitaries presented the winning players with trophies, nets, volleyballs and jerseys.

The Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Rashmi Shukla also paid a visit to the different frontier posts of the force in Assam and reviewed the force’s preparedness in terms of security along the Indo-Bhutan border, said an official release. The DG took stock of the work being done and the level of security preparedness being maintained by the SSB on the Bhutan border and issued necessary directions, even as she reviewed the works.

The SSB release, shared by Defence PRO Guwahati, also stated that the SSB DG is on a visit to Frontier Guwahati, Sonapur Headquarters post from August 6. SSB Director General Rashmi Shukla on Sunday called on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a scheduled visit and expressed her gratitude on behalf of the force, thereby presenting him with a memento and tree sapling. She went on to visit at Frontier Headquarters Sonapur, Guwahati, where she was welcomed with a Guard of Honour.
